Whether you are a music lover or a professional musician, if you have tinnitus you should know that music can be your ears’ worst enemy. Over 50 million people on the US have tinnitus, or ringing of the ears. And the number one cause of tinnitus is exposure to loud sounds. And unfortunately, if not somewhat unfairly, music is one of the main ways most of us expose ourselves to overly loud noise. The good news is this is largely under your control

It’s easy to listen to music too loud. Often we are trying to listen to music loud enough to drown other other noise. I’m always amazed when I get in my car, how loud I left the radio from my last drive. Almost all live entertainment is too loud whether it is classical, jazz, or rock.

If you are a professional musician looking for tinnitus relief, you’re in good company. After performing at the 2010 Super Bowl halftime show, rock legend Pete Townsend of the Who revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that his tinnitus returned.

He might have to give up live performing. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has discussed his tinnitus and his concerns for this generation growing up with iPods on CNN. Some other notable performers that acknowledge they have tinnitus include Neil Young, Barbra Streisand, Sting, and Eric Clapton.

There are many references to ringing ears in songs lyrics, including songs by U2, Wilco, Mark Knopfler, Nine Inch Nails, Bob Dylan, and Beck. Who could forget the famous Peter Frampton line, “I wonder how you’re feeling….there’s ringing in my ears.” I’m sure you can think of some others.

So what can music lovers do to prevent getting tinnitus or to stop tinnitus from getting any worse?

This may seem embarrassingly obvious, but when you have control of the sound level, such as the radio in your car or your iPod, keep the volume as a safe level.

What is considered a safe level? That would be so quiet that if someone wanted to talk to you they wouldn’t have to raise their voice. That’s pretty quiet. It is interesting to check out decibel levels of common sounds on sites such as CoolMath.com. You’ll find learn that listening to music in your home usually is as loud as the average factory.

When you can’t control the sound level, such as at at concert, use hearing protection. You can buy special musicians’ earplugs.

If you’re a drummer, you can get quiet drumsticks, which sounds like an oxymoron! Eric Clapton made them famous during his unplugged era. I’ve heard that their tinnitus is why some musicians decided to go “unplugged” in the first place.

And if you already have tinnitus, besides reducing sound levels you are exposed to, there are many tinnitus remedies that can reduce or even eliminate tinnitus symptoms, even though there is no actual tinnitus cure.

To be able to close and open the jaw of humans, TMJ or Temporomandibular joint is needed. The TMJ is a small cartilage disc that connects the mandible or the lower jaw to the skull of the temporal bone.

An individual benefits from TMJ disorder treatment for the problems in this area can cause severe discomfort to the patient.

It will be advantageous for you to know about the varieties of symptoms of TMJ. Swallowing is difficult for people who undergo facial pain and muscle spasms in the jaw and neck area. Actions such as chewing, yawning or even talking may be very difficult for you to do.

TMJ disorder may also exhibit ear pain, in some cases tinnitus or ringing in the ears and the worst that can happen is the event of a hearing loss. The problem is not with the patients’ ears but some think that it actually is the problem. There are occasion when one may also suffer from migraines or severe headaches.

The improper position of disc jaw lets you produce clicking and popping sounds which can be heard by others in a TMJ disorder. The jaw may be stuck open in this case or may not open at all. With this, TMJ can swell up the affected side.

There are several factors that could probably the cause of TMJ pain. Teeth grinding or too much gum chewing are some of the reasons which can lead to TMJ disorder. Misplacement of the jaw since birth could be a very possible reason.

Treatment for TMJ is easily accessible. Problems in the TMJ area can only be diagnosed by otolaryngologists. By preventing gum chewing and thru jaw muscle relaxation (such as eating soft foods instead), this can be mitigated if still in the early phase.

The jaw area should be applied with ice packs as soon as possible for swelling to be minimized in case it has experienced trauma.

Overthecounter transaction is allowed for nonprescriptive drugs specific for pain mitigation. If TMJ problem is in its worst state, oral surgeon operation must be done.

If you are already experiencing some form of TMJ problem, regular checkups to the dentist will be of help. However, your dentist should be knowledgeable enough about jawbite relationships to be able to discern your situation and to refer you to proper specialist.

If TMJ is detected early, you can be saved from a lot of pain and associated problems.

Though TMJ is one of the most misinterpreted with other type symptoms, it was found that around 10 million Americans are suffering from TMJ. This is just a small number and it can be assumed that even more people in every part of the world may be experiencing a TMJ syndrome.

The symptoms are classic and the treatment options are available so there is no need for an individual to go through these painful events.

It will be an individual’s advantage if he/she will be equipped with enough knowledge on TMJ. The TMJ disorder’s progress may be halted if one is aware of the underlying indications and warning signs. Mere chewing of gum and other habits can make your jaw lock so be aware of these actions.

Are you tired of listening to that ringing in your ears day in and day out? If you have been to numerous doctors and specialists only to be told that nothing can be done, perhaps it’s time to find your own solution.

There are many natural tinnitus treatments that can help tinnitus sufferers. A little bit of research will show you that others have overcome their tinnitus and there is a good chance that you can too. You’ll feel great relief when your tinnitus subsides and you can enjoy a peaceful nights sleep again.

During the last 20 years or so, many researchers have applied themselves to discovering tinnitus solutions. One of the first discoveries was ‘masking’, where an external noise like a fountain was used to drown out the tinnitus. This was found to provide temporary relief. While drug therapy has not provided any real answers to tinnitus, this external sound stimulation showed promise.

Since then we have learned a lot more about tinnitus and the brain, enabling much more effective solutions to be found. Tinnitus begins when the ear is damaged by an injury, infection or too much noise exposure. One theory is that when damage prevents us from hearing sounds correctly, our brain produces a substitute sound, which is tinnitus. Tinnitus Sound Therapy Download

The way the brain creates the sound is through the firing of neurons. Any sound, or any sense we perceive, begins with the sense organ (eyes, ears etc) and ends with neurons firing in the brain. With tinnitus, the neurons are firing on their own, even though no sound has been received by the ear. So to stop the tinnitus we have to stop the neurons spontaneously firing.

There are ways of helping the auditory parts of the brain to calm down, which can help stop this unwanted neuronal firing. Here are a few ideas you can try.

o Stay away from noisy environments, if you find they trigger your tinnitus

o If you have to go to noisy places wear good-quality earplugs or earmuffs

o Try reducing your intake of caffeine or alcohol

o Find out if any medicine you are taking may trigger tinnitus

o Keep your ears and neck warm to avoid getting winter colds

o Practice deep breathing while listening to calming music

o Increase your intake of antioxidants

o Drink 8 to 10 glasses of filtered water every day to help detox your system

o Use Sound Therapy to help you build healthier auditory pathways in your brain

When you take on board some of these self-healing techniques, you will feel empowered to heal yourself instead of feeling powerless over your tinnitus. Let yourself be confident, because the body has an amazing ability to heal. There is lots of information available now to help you heal your tinnitus. Tinnitus Sound Therapy Download

Tinnitus is often overlooked as a major hearing problem for millions of people around the world, and previously, it has been thought that there is no cure.

However, now scientists have discovered that something as simple as taking magnesium supplements could potentially reduce tinnitus, a condition which affects almost 1 in 10 adults, which is a beginning of a sign of relief.

Magnesium is a mineral found in leafy green vegetables such as spinach, and previous studies have found that people with low levels of magnesium in the body have a higher-risk of noise induced hearing loss. Hearing loss is a major cause of tinnitus, as a person’s brain attempts to ‘fill the void’ with ringing or roaring sounds.

The new trial of 40 patients is set to begin in the US in February 2011, and offers new hope to those who suffer with the distress and discomfort of tinnitus every day.

It also provides a platform for further development and research into other hearing loss treatments.

Other steps that people with tinnitus can take to help their hearing is to regularly speak to their doctor, avoid exposure to loud noises (which has been found to aggravate tinnitus), avoid stress and speak to a health specialist about what kinds of foods may aggravate your tinnitus (caffeine and alcohol are often culprits for many people). Things like cochlear implants can also help, and if you have a child, hearing aids can help by improving hearing overall.

Remember that there are also many tinnitus support networks available, so check online to find the contact details of your closest tinnitus or hearing loss association. Counselling is often a key part of any medical treatment program, and the management of tinnitus is no different. The support of family and friends who are close to you is also important.

Headaches are some of the most frustrating medical problems to diagnose and treat. Most people experience headaches at some point in their life and many experience chronic debilitating headaches that seem to defy treatment. Although headaches may point to serious medical conditions, they are also one of the leading symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder or TMJ, which are the joints of your jaw.

Headaches and TMJ are closely linked because the trigeminal nerve, which enervates most of your face and head, passes through this area of your jaw. Neuromuscular dentists are specially trained to diagnose and treat headaches caused by problems with your TMJ. This is commonly called temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD.

Headaches are commonly just that, headaches, which may not be related to other medical problems.

When headaches are a sign or symptom of other underlying medical problems they are known as secondary headaches. When trying to isolate secondary headaches as they relate to TMD, your neuromuscular dentist may also look for other signs and symptoms of TMD, including:
Pain of the jaw muscles
Locking or clicking noises
Facial, neck, or shoulder pain
Tinnitus or ringing of the ears

Just because your headaches occur in conjunction with these problems does not necessarily mean they are related, but chances are better that TMJ may be the culprit. TMJ disorders are related to stress on the TMJ because of a misalignment of one or both jaw joints. This misalignment can put stress on one or both jaw joints.

By returning the jaw to its proper alignment, the neuromuscular dentist may be able to address all the symptoms related to TMJ disorders.

In general, your dentist will try the most conservative treatment options first, basically in an attempt to reverse the conditions that are causing the misalignment of your jaw. These may be things as simple as changing your diet to softer foods until the pain subsides. You may also be retrained in your eating habits or given simple exercises to strengthen your jaw muscles.

In cases where the misalignment is caused by a malocclusion, or a bad bite between your upper and lower jaws, treatments like Invisalign orthodontia, tooth extraction, or dental restorations like dental crowns may be tried. In the most severe cases, surgery of the jaw or the TMJ itself may be considered.

The primary goal is to restore your jaw to proper alignment. Once that is done, most of the symptoms associated with TMJ should be relieved, including recurring headaches. If your headaches continue after treatment by a neuromuscular dentist, you should seek further medical attention to ensure that there is no other serious condition causing your headaches.

Millions of people suffer from the tormenting noise in their ears which is called tinnitus. If you are one of them you will know just how bad this noise is and how it can wreck your life.

Most people who suffer from this noise. It can be temporary or permanent and they just try to live with it. Because they are unaware there is a solution to it.

The main cause of this noise is exposure to loud noise. Most of people who have tinnitus get it because of this and medication will not treat this tinnitus.

If you are suffering with this noise it is important to take action because it can only become worse.

The first step is to avoid any source of loud noise. If you are working where you have to put up with this noise then wear a pair of earplugs. This will cut out most of the noise and help you to gain relief from the tinnitus but will not stop it.

Eating a healthy diet can help you too.

It’s very annoying problem that can ruin your daily life and distract your attention from daily activities. This condition affects about 20% of the population. The common causes are direct exposure to loud noise and stress. This article will show you how to stop tinnitus problem using simple methods.

The first cause of tinnitus is loud noise. So, you should avoid the source of loud noise whenever possible. However, if your house is next to the construction site, you might not be able to re-locate. So, you could try using earplugs to protect your ears. Slowly, your ears will be recovered and your tinnitus will disappear.

If loud noise is not the cause of your tinnitus problem, you should look for other options such as adjusting your emotional condition and diets.

Some foods can really relieve the symptoms of tinnitus. For example, these foods are vegetables and fruits. Drugs and smoking should also be avoided because they can aggravate tinnitus problem.

If you’re very unlucky, you may find that you tinnitus cannot be cured. This is because of small tumors in your head. You can discover this by consulting with your doctors. He or she will use CT scan to find tumors in your head and help you to remove them.

In conclusion, tinnitus is not a problem that should be ignored. If it’s possible you should try natural methods that I suggested above. This can save your money and stop tinnitus from the causes not the symptoms.

Temporomandibular Joint

To understand the disorder, you should have a good understanding about the temporomandibular joint. It is the ball-and-socket that connects your upper and lower jaws. This is the joint that you use every day for chewing, yawning, talking, and biting. Any problem in the joint will affect all these functions.

Common Symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

The most common symptom of this disorder is headache. It is seen in almost 80% of patients. Almost 40% of patients also exhibit facial pain. The pain is increased when trying to open and close the mouth. Other predisposing factors include air conditioning and cold weather. This will cause contraction of the facial muscles, thereby increasing the pain.

Another common symptom of TMJ disorder is ear pain. It is seen in almost 50% of patients. The pain is commonly in front of the ear. Occasionally, it also occurs below the ear. The ear pain may or may not be associated with infection in the ear. When you visit your doctor with an ear infection, the doctor may also check the temporomandibular joint. This is done for the proper diagnosis of the condition.

Another common symptom associated with the disorder is a popping or grinding sound when moving the jaw. This is called crepitus. The patient may also exhibit increased pain along with crepitus. Dizziness is also seen in some patients with this disorder. It occurs in almost 40% of patients.

Some 33% of patients also report fullness of the ear. Ear fullness and pain is usually seen in patients with problems of the Eustachian tube, which regulates the pressure inside the middle ear. It becomes especially troublesome for patients when flying in commercial airplanes.

Some patients also complain about ringing in the ear. This problem is known as tinnitus, and is seen in 33% of patients.

Causes of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

This disorder is mainly caused by excessive wear and tear of the joint. One of the main reasons for this wear and tear is teeth grinding in the night. Improper alignment and other problems with the teeth can also result in this disorder. Other predisposing factors include any previous fractures and stress. If you have the habit of holding the telephone between the shoulder and the head, it may also lead to TMJ disorder.

The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects your lower jaw to your skull in front of your ears. The symptoms of TMD/TMJ or temporomandibular joint disorder can be the result of an injury, a disease, the aging process or habitual behaviors of clenching and grinding the teeth (bruxism). Teeth grinding and clenching can change the alignment of your teeth and cause muscle spasms and inflammation.

TMD/TMJ Symptoms Are Numerous

The symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder are numerous and vary in location and intensity for each individual, but often include:

Head and facial pain
Pain around the eyes
Watery eyes
Tooth pain and tooth sensitivity
Ear pain and ringing in the ears
Dizziness
Difficulty swallowing
Neck, shoulder and back pain
Jaw clenching
Nausea
Migraine-like headaches
Popping sounds emanating from the jaw

Headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting are typical symptoms of TMD/TMJ with the headache often being confused with a tension, sinus or migraine headache.

The true cause of your headache can be determined with a thorough examination and evaluation by a neuromuscular dentist familiar with the symptoms of TMD/TMJ.

The Pain of TMD/TMJ

The pain associated with TMD/TMJ in facial muscles and the jaw can radiate into the neck, shoulders and back. This facial pain increases when you speak, chew or attempt to yawn.

This facial pain is usually focused in the joint in front of your ear, but may be felt on the skull and other parts of your face and jaw. Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) or even hearing loss may also be a concern with TMD/TMJ. The pain can be sharp and burning or a dull, constant ache. Pain medication is useless in the treatment of TMD/TMJ because it does not treat the underlying cause of the pain. Neuromuscular dentistry treats the causes of temporomandibular joint disorder, not just the symptoms.
